Women’s USA Softball National Team Coming to
Bowman Field
Game SOLD OUT
February 4 - The
2008 Women’s USA Softball National Team will play an exhibition game at
Historic Bowman Field in Williamsport on May 8, 2008 as the “Bound 4
Beijing” tour rolls through the United States in preparation for the 2008
Olympic Games. Game time is scheduled for 7pm.
Gates will open at 5:00pm. Tickets for the event are now
SOLD OUT.
Williamsport is one of 46 cities on the tour that will
host the squad as they look to capture a fourth-consecutive gold medal in
China.
The
USA team will be opposed by a Regional All-Star team to be coached by
Jersey Shore native Jeremy Lazorka who currently serves as a Manager of
the University of Arizona Women’s Softball Team. The local stop is being
hosted by the Williamsport Crosscutters, the PA Softball Coaches
Association of District 4, and the Amateur Softball Association of PA.
The game is being co-sponsored by Clear Channel Radio Williamsport.
“The Crosscutters are
excited to be partnering with the ASA and Coaches Association to bring
this great event to Historic Bowman Field and one of only two appearances
in the state of Pennsylvania. We look forward to helping make this the
best stop on their 46-city tour”, said Cutters Vice President General
Manager Doug Estes.

Ron Radigonda added, “The Amateur Softball Association is proud to be able
to organize the “Bound 4 Beijing” tour for the National Team as well as
for softball enthusiasts across the U.S. It’s going to be an exciting
year for our women’s programs they look to a fourth-consecutive gold medal
and what better way to get it started than with a tour across the United
States. Our local associations have done a great job in hosting these
stops, providing the opportunity for the National Team to compete against
the best teams in the country on American soil.”
“We’re excited to be able
to travel to Williamsport and showcase our talented team and hopefully get
everyone excited for the Olympic Games,” said National Team player Cat
Osterman. It’s a great way to prepare for the ultimate stage, the Olympic
Games.”
Highlighting the tour
will be eight nationally televised games on ESPN2 airing from April
through June. Four other games are slated to be televised in July.
USA Softball Head Coach Mike Candrea stated, “The
“Bound 4 Beijing” tour is great exposure for not only the team, but also
for the sport of softball. It provides us an opportunity to play ion
front of fans that may not otherwise have the chance to see us compete.
It’s a long haul as we play six months of competitive softball, but in the
end it will help us prepare for our ultimate goal of another Olympic gold
medal.”
