Game Recap
Cutters Win 5th Straight The Cutters took an early lead when Matt Spencer drove in Derrick Mitchell with a single in the top of the first inning. Williamsport added a pair of runs in the second, and tacked on another in the third. Chance Chapman cruised through the first four innings, striking out five along the way. Mitchell hit a two-run home run in the sixth, his sixth of the year, to extend the Crosscutters lead to 6-0. In the home half of the fifth, however, the Scrappers roughed up Chapman, plating three runs on four hits. Caleb Mangum led off the sixth with his first home run of the season, but Mahoning Valley continued to chip away, adding two more runs in the bottom of the sixth. The Cutters got their final run when Dominic Brown scored on an error by Mahoning Valley second baseman Jeff Hehr on a balll hit by Matt Spencer. The Scrappers rallied for a run in the ninth on Williamsport reliever Moises Melendez, but left the bases loaded when a ground ball back to Melendez was flipped to catcher Mangum for the games final out. Chapman earned his fifth win, and Melendez notched his second save for the Crosscutters, who have won eight of their last ten games. Mitchell, Spencer, Mangum, and Mike Durant had two hits apiece to pace the Cutters. Williamsport hosts Batavia for the final three games of
the 2007 season at Historic Bowman Field Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Each game will start at 7:05 p.m.
